Vaughan plots Beshabar course

Tim Vaughan is hoping to get Beshabar in tip-top shape for the John Smith’s Grand National without a prep run.

The 2011 Scottish National hero has been sidelined with a tendon injury since finishing fifth in the Hennessy Gold Cup that November.

Although Vaughan feels he cannot get a public outing into the 11-year-old before the Aintree marathon on April 6, he intends to get at least one racecourse gallop into Beshabar before then.

“He’s coming along well. We’d like to have a prep run but we always knew we wouldn’t have enough time to do that after his tendon strain,” said the Vale of Glamorgan trainer.

“It’s not going to be an easy task to get him there absolutely super primed but hopefully we’ll get a racecourse gallop into him, or possibly two if we can, and take him straight to Aintree.”
