Two new teams for next F1 season, says Ecclestone

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed there are likely to be two new teams on the grid from next season.

In December motor sport's world governing body, the FIA, announced it was seeking expressions of interest from potential new entrants.

Gene Haas, one half of the successful Stewart-Haas Racing team that competes in NASCAR, has long been a favourite to be given a slot.

Another potential newcomer is StefanGP, run by former Hispania and Midland team principal Colin Kolles, and with bases in Serbia and Germany.

Asked initially about Haas, Ecclestone said: "I think they have asked to be admitted."

The 83-year-old then revealed: "They will be accepted, and we've also accepted another team as well, although whether they'll make it or not is another story.

"But we are happy to have another couple of teams. I've spoken to (FIA president) Jean Todt and we agreed yesterday.

"Another two teams want to come in, we'll let them in."

The FIA was due to make a decision by the end of February but is yet to make any official announcement.

It is understood the organisation is still conducting due diligence procedures before formally confirming either team will be running in 2015.
