QPR v Stoke Saturday September 20 12.45pm

QPR: Vargas fitness boost

Napoli loan signing Eduardo Vargas should recover from having stitches in his head to make his home debut for QPR in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Stoke.

The Chile striker suffered a clash of heads in midweek action for Rangers’ Under-21s.

Boss Harry Redknapp expects Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch to beat niggles in time to face Mark Hughes’ side at Loftus Road.

Provisional squad: Green, McCarthy, Hill, Dunne, Ferdinand, Onuoha, Caulker, Suk-young, Traore, Isla, Henry, Sandro, Barton, Fer, Mutch, Hoilett, Phillips, Kranjcar, Wright-Phillips, Austin, Zamora, Vargas.

Stoke: Fitness worries for Stoke

Stoke have doubts over forward Jon Walters (calf) and midfielder Marko Arnautovic (foot) ahead of Saturday’s trip to QPR.

Midfielder Stephen Ireland should be in contention following a rib muscle injury.

Defender Geoff Cameron (hernia) and forward Peter Odemwingie (knee) both remain sidelined following surgery.

Provisional Squad: Begovic, Bardsley, Wilson, Shawcross, Pieters, Whelan, Walters, Krkic, Moses, Nzonzi, Crouch, Sorensen, Huth, Adam, Arnautovic, Assaidi, Biram Diouf, Muniesa, Ireland.

Aston Villa v Arsenal Saturday September 20 3pm

Aston Villa: Villa wait on Vlaar

Ron Vlaar is a doubt for Aston Villa’s Barclays Premier League clash against Arsenal with the calf injury which forced him to miss last weekend’s win at Liverpool.

The skipper will be assessed but Nathan Baker is on standby to deputise again. Christian Benteke has returned to training but will not play as the striker recovers from five months out following a ruptured Achilles.

Libor Kozak is still sidelined as he continues his progress from a broken leg and had a routine check-up at hospital on Friday but Joe Cole has shaken off a calf problem and could feature.

Provisional squad: Guzan, Given, Hutton, Baker, Okore, Clark, Herd, Senderos, Bacuna, Lowton, Cissokho, Cleverley, Westwood, Delph, Sanchez, Richardson, Cole Grealish, N’Zogbia, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Bent.

Arsenal: Arsenal welcome back duo

Arsenal expect to have defender Calum Chambers (tonsillitis) and midfielder Mathieu Flamini (groin) available for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Aston Villa after not playing in the midweek away European defeat to Dortmund.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere should shake off an ankle knock, but defender Nacho Monreal (back) remains out.

Full-back Mathieu Debuchy is sidelined by an ankle ligament injury, the full extent of which is still being assessed and striker Yaya Sanogo (hamstring) is still not match fit, while winger Theo Walcott (knee) continues his recovery. Midfielder Serge Gnabry (knee) remains out and France forward Olivier Giroud (fractured foot) is a long-term absentee.

Provisional Squad: Szczesny, Gibbs, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Chambers, Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Sanchez, Ozil, Welbeck, Ospina, Rosicky, Campbell, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Podolski, Flamini, Bellerin.

Burnley v Sunderland Saturday September 20 3pm

Burnley: Ings out for Clarets

Burnley striker Danny Ings will miss Saturday’s meeting with Sunderland after suffering a hamstring injury in last weekend’s draw against Crystal Palace.

Ings joins long-term absentee Sam Vokes (knee) on the sidelines meaning Marvin Sordell and Ashley Barnes come into contention.

Matt Taylor is also out with a niggling Achilles problem but loan duo Nathan Chalobah and Michael Keane are eyeing debuts.

Provisional squad: Heaton, Trippier, Lafferty, Ward, Duff, Shackell, Mee, Wallace, Marney, Kightly, Cisak, Jones, Sordell, Reid, Jutkiewicz, Chalobah, Boyd, Gilks, Keane, Long, Barnes, Arfield.

Sunderland: Selection dilemma for Poyet

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet faces a series of difficult decisions ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Burnley.

The Uruguayan has no significant injury doubts as he looks for a first league win of the campaign and, as a result, needs to decide whether or not to change the side which started last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Defender Billy Jones and midfielders Will Buckley and Jordi Gomez are among those men pushing for starting berths, although Poyet has indicated striker Connor Wickham, who was effective as a lone striker last weekend, will retain the role.

Provisional squad: Mannone, Pantilimon, Jones, Van Aanholt, Brown, O’Shea, Vergini, Coates, Roberge, Cattermole, Bridcutt, Rodwell, Gomez, Larsson, Johnson, Buckley, Giaccherini, Alvarez, Mavrias, Wickham, Fletcher, Altidore, Graham.

Newcastle v Hull Saturday September 20 3pm

Newcastle: No changes for Magpies

Under-pressure Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will have to rely upon the same group of players which capitulated at Southampton last weekend as he looks for victory over Hull.

Pardew will once again be without midfielders Siem de Jong (thigh) and Rolando Aarons (hamstring) with the former facing months on the sidelines.

Striker Papiss Cisse is closing in on a return from a long-term knee injury, but fellow frontman Adam Campbell (hernia) is likely to be missing for some time and full-back Davide Santon is still out as he continues his recovery from a knee problem.

Provisional squad: Krul, Elliot, Janmaat, Dummett, Haidara, Coloccini, Williamson, S. Taylor, Tiote, Anita, Abeid, Gouffran, Sissoko, Colback, Cabella, Obertan, Ameobi, Riviere, Perez, Armstrong.

Hull: Hull wait on Hernandez fitness

Hull will make a late check on record signing Abel Hernandez ahead of Saturday’s visit to Newcastle but expect him to be ready for action.

Hernandez scored on his debut against West Ham but manager Steve Bruce admits he was left exhausted by his introduction to English football and will assess his match fitness on the morning of the game.

Hatem Ben Arfa is ineligible to face his parent club but fellow loanne Gaston Ramirez could make a full debut.

Provisional squad: McGregor, Harper, Davies, Dawson, Rosenior, Robertson, Diame, McShane, Elmohamady, Huddlestone, Livermore, Ince, Brady, Jelavic, Aluko, Sagbo, Quinn, Meyler, Hernandez, Ramirez.

Swansea v Southampton Saturday September 20 3pm

Swansea: Fernandez in line for Swans start

Argentina defender Federico Fernandez stands by to make his first Barclays Premier League start for Swansea following his £8m move from Napoli last month.

Fernandez came on at half-time in the 4-2 defeat at Chelsea last weekend after Jordi Amat damaged knee ligaments and should slot into central defence alongside skipper Ashley Williams against Southampton at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Amat has been ruled out for six weeks and the only other change from the Chelsea defeat could see the return of Wilfried Bony for Bafetimbi Gomis. The Ivorian dropped to the bench at Stamford Bridge following his late return from African Nations Cup duty.

Provisional squad: Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Ki, Shelvey, Routledge, Dyer, Sigurdsson, Bony, Tremmel, Tiendalli, Gomis, Carroll, Emnes, Montero, Bartley, Richards, Fulton, King, Kingsley.

Southampton: Mane wait goes on for Saints

Sadio Mane continues to be absent as Southampton travel to Swansea in the Premier League.

Mane has received his work permit and joined up with his team-mates on Friday and will be assessed to see if he can make his debut in next Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash at Arsenal.

Striker Shane Long has shaken off a head knock.

Provisional squad: Forster, Davis, Clyne, Yoshida, Fonte, Gardos, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Schneiderlin, Davis, Wanyama, Reed, Ward-Prowse, Stephens, Cork, Ramirez, Tadic, Rodriguez, Long, Pelle.

West Ham v Liverpool Saturday September 20 5.30pm

West Ham: Injury troubles go on for Hammers

Sam Allardyce has none of his injured players returning to fitness in time to face Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.

West Ham will still be without a host of names for the game at Upton Park, with Matt Jarvis (thigh), Andy Carroll (ankle), Kevin Nolan (shoulder) and Joey O’Brien (knee) all missing and James Collins (hamstring) still a doubt.

But Allardyce could yet hand full debuts to Carl Jenkinson, Alex Song and Morgan Amalfitano after the trio all came off the bench in Monday night’s 2-2 draw at Hull.

Provisional squad: Adrian, Jaaskelainen, Cresswell, Reid, Burke, Tomkins, Collins, Demel, Jenkinson, Noble, Kouyate, Song, Poyet, Morrison, Amalfitano, Downing, Vaz Te, Cole, Zarate, Sakho, Valencia.

Liverpool: Skrtel available

Defender Martin Skrtel returns to the Liverpool squad to face West Ham after recovering from a knee injury which has sidelined him for three matches.

Fellow defender Glen Johnson (thigh) is unlikely to be ready to come back while Jon Flangan has undergone an operation on a troublesome knee.

Midfielder Joe Allen has still not recovered from a knee injury sustained on international duty while Daniel Sturridge is edging closer to a return from a thigh strain.

Provisional squad: Mignolet, Manquillo, Sakho, Lovren, Moreno, Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Markovic, Sterling, Balotelli, Jones, Skrtel, Toure, Enrique, Lucas, Coutinho, Borini, Suso, Lambert.

Leicester v Man United Sunday September 21 1.30pm

Leicester: Cambiasso in contention for Foxes

Esteban Cambiasso could start for Leicester after his impressive 45-minute outing in the win over Stoke last week.

The former Inter Milan midfielder is primed for a home debut after joining on a free transfer in the summer.

Kasper Schmeichel is available after missing the Foxes’ Britannia Stadium win with a ligament strain, Ben Hamer deputising, and Nick Powell is ineligible against his parent club under the terms of his loan from Old Trafford.

Provisional squad: Schmeichel, Hamer, De Laet, Konchesky, Wasilewski, Schlupp, Moore, Morgan, King, Hammond, Albrighton, Knockaert, Mahrez, Vardy, Taylor-Fletcher, Ulloa, Nugent, Wood, Drinkwater, Cambiasso, Simpson, Lawrence.

Man Utd: Smalling available for United

Defender Chris Smalling has recovered from a groin injury and is available for Manchester United’s game at Leicester on Sunday.

Sam Johnstone (elbow), Phil Jones (hamstring), Ashley Young (groin), Michael Carrick (ankle), Jesse Lingard (knee), Marouane Fellaini (ankle) are out.

Reece James and James Wilson are unlikely to feature due to unspecified injuries, but left-back Luke Shaw could make his debut.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Rafael, Valencia, Shaw, Rojo, Evans, Smalling, Blackett, Blind, Herrera, Fletcher, Anderson, Mata, Januzaj, Di Maria, Rooney, Falcao, Van Persie, W Keane.

Spurs v West Brom Sunday September 21 1.30pm

Spurs: Townsend doubtful for Baggies clash

A dead leg makes Andros Townsend a doubt for Tottenham’s Barclays Premier League clash with West Brom on Sunday.

The England winger picked up the knock in Thursday’s Europa League clash at Partizan Belgrade and will be assessed before the White Hart Lane encounter.

Right-back Kyle Walker remains absent with a hip injury, although Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul, Mousa Dembele, Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose return to the squad after being rested for the trip to Serbia.

Provisional squad: Lloris, Vorm, Dier, Naughton, Chiriches, Fazio, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose, Davies, Stambouli, Bentaleb, Paulinho, Dembele, Lamela, Lennon, Chadli, Townsend, Eriksen, Adebayor, Kane, Soldado.

West Brom: Lescott set for Baggies bow

West Brom’s injury worries have eased with their full squad training this week for the first time this season.

Defender Joleon Lescott stands by to make his debut at Tottenham while Youssouf Mulumbu has shaken off a hamstring injury along with Victor Anichebe (hernia).

Midfielder Silvestre Varela could be involved after the summer signing from Porto boosted his fitness while Stephane Sessegnon has recovered after a ball in the face caused him to have blood on his eye and miss last week’s 2-0 defeat to Everton.

Provisional squad: Foster, Myhill, Pocognoli, Gamboa, Dawson, Lescott, McAuley, Olsson, Davidson, Wisdom, Baird, Morrison, Mulumbu, Brunt, Blanco, Valera, Sessegnon, Samaras, Ideye, Anichebe, Berahino.

Everton v Crystal Palace Sunday September 21 4pm

Everton: Eto’o in contention for Toffees

Samuel Eto’o could make his first start at Goodison Park as Everton boss Roberto Martinez looks to make it three straight wins against Crystal Palace in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.

Eto’o impressed after coming on as substitute for the final 22 minutes of Thursday night’s 4-1 UEFA Europa League win over Wolfsburg and Martinez believes he is now ready for a full 90 minutes.

Everton’s only doubt is right-back Seamus Coleman, who sustained a knock on the head against the German side and will undergo a late fitness test.

Provisional squad: Howard, Coleman, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Hibbert, Barry, McCarthy, McGeady, Mirallas, Naismith, Lukaku, Robles, Stones, Alcaraz, Gibson, Osman, Besic, Pienaar, Eto’o.

Palace: Warnock waiting for Chamakh

Neil Warnock will give forward Marouane Chamakh every chance to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Everton.

The Morocco international has been struggling with a hamstring injury and will not be risked if there is a chance the problem could flare up once more at Goodison Park.

Deadline day acquisition Zeki Fryers is still waiting for his Palace debut whilst Kevin Doyle is in contention for his first start and Andrew Johnson could yet feature against one of his former clubs.

Provisional Squad: Speroni, Hennessey, Mariappa, Kelly, Fryers, Ward, Delaney, Dann, Hangeland, Jedinak, McArthur, Bannan, Ledley, Williams, Bolasie, Thomas, Puncheon, Gayle, Campbell, Johnson, Doyle, Chamakh, Zaha.

Man City v Chelsea Sunday September 21 4pm

Man City: Jovetic still sidelined for City

Manchester City are again without striker Stevan Jovetic (hamstring) and midfielder Fernando (groin) for Sunday’s Barclays Premier League clash with leaders Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

Forward Edin Dzeko has also been troubled by a back problem since the midweek Champions League loss at Bayern Munich but City expect him to be fit.

On-loan midfielder Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s record goalscorer, could face his former club while £32m defender Eliaquim Mangala still awaits his City debut.

Provisional squad: Hart, Caballero, Zabaleta, Sagna, Kompany, Demichelis, Mangala, Boyata, Clichy, Kolarov, Silva, Nasri, Milner, Navas, Toure, Lampard, Fernandinho, Aguero, Dzeko.

Chelsea: Costa fit to face champions

Diego Costa will start for Chelsea against Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday despite a hamstring problem.

The striker, who has scored seven goals in four Premier League matches, was only a substitute in Wednesday’s Champions League draw with Schalke and cannot play more than one full game a week at present.

Manager Jose Mourinho reported no other injury problems.

Provisional squad: Courtois, Cech, Ivanovic, Luis, Fabregas, Zouma, Ake, Ramires, Oscar, Hazard, Drogba, Mikel, Schurrle, Salah, Remy, Costa, Matic, Willian, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Boga, Baker, Schwarzer.
