Team Ireland win two cycling GOLD medals in less than one hour

Ireland's cyclists have won an incredible two gold medals in the past hour at the Rio Paralympics.

Eoghan Clifford stormed to first place in the men's C3 Road Time Trial in a time of 38 minutes and 21 seconds.

It's the Limerick man's second medal of the games after his bronze medal finish in the 3 kilometre speed race last week.

“I’m absolutely delighted. It was the performance I was looking for. It’s the performance I knew I could deliver,” said Clifford.

“For me it’s also a huge relief because for a lot of the season I felt I hadn’t done myself justice or the team justice. And today, hopefully, I’ve managed to do that.”

Meanwhile Katie George Dunleavy and her pilot Eve McCrystal have won gold in the women's B Road Time Trial.

The pair came home in a time of 38 minutes and 59 seconds.

It caps off a hugely successful day on the bike for Ireland after Colin Lynch claimed a silver medal in the C2 Road Time Trial earlier this morning.

Elsewhere today, Ellen Keane will swim in the final of the 100 metre breaststroke at 9.35pm after winning her heat in convincing fashion this morning.

And Patrick O'Leary qualified for tomorrow's final of the canoe 200 metre event after coming through his heats and semi-finals.

In football Ireland's 7-a-side team have finished in 8th place after losing to USA 2-1, while the sonar sailing trio are currently in 7th position in Race 6 of 10 and 13th overall.
