The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has described the Bray fighter as "an outstanding and true champion", adding that she has made us all proud and lifted the heads of the Irish people.
While, President Higgins said it was a great achievement which showed once again that Katie Taylor is "one of our greatest ever competitors at international level".
It is expected that large crowds will gather in Dublin Airport tomorrow evening, when Katie arrives back in Ireland with her gold medal.
