Somehow strives to earn Aidan O'Brien Oaks call-up at Chester

Somehow bids to book her ticket for the Investec Oaks when she faces seven rivals in the Arkle Finance Cheshire Oaks at Chester on Wednesday.

The daughter of 2006 Oaks heroine Alexandrova is around a 20-1 shot for the Epsom Classic in a market dominated by her Aidan O'Brien-trained stablemate Minding, the 1000 Guineas winner.

Somehow was placed on her only start as a two-year-old, but made no mistake getting off the mark on her seasonal debut at Leopardstown where she landed a 10-furlong maiden in good style.

"She's in good form and came out of Leopardstown well. We think she'll learn a lot," said O'Brien.

"We liked her going to Leopardstown and obviously she's out of Alexandrova.

"The trip shouldn't be a problem to her so we'll see how she gets on."

Charlie Hills is testing the water with Moorside and Doubly Motivated.

"Moorside is a filly we've always liked, and the form of her debut run was franked by So Mi Dar winning the Epsom Derby Trial," the Lambourn trainer told www.charleshills.com.

"She probably didn't really enjoy the all-weather on her second start and we're looking forward to seeing how she goes.

"Doubly Motivated was too keen Ascot last week and we're hoping the turning track will help her settle. She has plenty of ability and shouldn't be written off."

James Tate was delighted with the performance of Mirsaalah in edging out the odds-on favourite Black Princess over 10 furlongs in a handicap at Nottingham last week with the third horse Norse Magic 13 lengths away.

The Newmarket trainer feels she deserves the chance to prove herself in Listed company.

"She made a cracking seasonal debut beating the Godolphin filly in a Nottingham handicap last week," said Tate.

"She came out of the race really well. She's bouncing. It's a good opportunity to try to get some black type.

"I think the trip will suit. It's just about how good she is. She's got fewer questions to answer than some of the others, having run well last week."
