SFA investigating alleged racist comment by Celtic player

The Scottish Football Association has contacted Aberdeen over claims that Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev racially abused Dons full-back Shay Logan.

The SFA revealed yesterday that its compliance officer was looking into the allegations and the north-east club have confirmed that they have been asked for their version of events.

Logan told team-mate Mark Reynolds and manager Derek McInnes of the alleged abuse during his team's 2-1 defeat at Celtic Park on Saturday.

An Aberdeen statement read: "The club confirms it has been contacted by the SFA regarding the alleged racist comment during the SPFL Premiership game with Celtic FC on Saturday, September 14, 2014.

"The club will co-operate fully with this investigation. As an employer we support unconditionally any employee who is the subject of any form of abuse and as such believe it is appropriate to allow the SFA the time necessary to carry out a full investigation.

"Consequently, no club official or employee will be making any further comment while the matter is under investigation by the national association."

A Celtic spokesperson said on Sunday: ''We have spoken to the player and he has stated that the accusation made is not true.''

Bulgaria winger Tonev, 24, was making his Celtic debut after arriving on a one-year loan deal from Aston Villa with a groin injury.
