Radwanska extends Auckland run

Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska made smooth progress into the semi-finals of the ASB Classic in Auckland with a 6-3 6-3 win over Russia’s Elena Vesnina.

The Polish world number four broke once in the first set and twice in the second, and was rarely tested on serve.

Radwanska will next face the winner of the quarter-final between Kiki Bertens and Jamie Hampton.

Third seed Yanina Wickmayer also progressed with a 6-3 6-4 win in her all-Belgian last-eight clash with Kirsten Flipkens.

Wickmayer held her nerve on the big points, converting the two break-point chances she created in the match while saving three.

In the semi-finals she will play eighth seed Mona Barthel of Germany, who needed just 44 minutes to breeze past Sweden’s Johanna Larsson 6-2 6-1.
