Derval O'Rourke and Fionnuala Britton will lead a weakened Irish team in the European Team championship next week.

The Irish have been rocked by the withdrawals of World high jump finalist Deirdre Ryan and Ciaran O'Lionard and face stiff competition to remain in league 1 of the competition.

Brian Gregan has been named as the 400 meter athlete and will also take part in the 4x400 meter relay for next weekend which will take place in Santry stadium.

At the European team championships, points awarded to countries for the performance of their athletes in each event.

Athlete's the calibre of Hungary's Olympic hammer Champion Krisztian Pars will be out to spoil the Irish party.

The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Portugal and Sweden are four of the 11 countries the Irish will face.
