Mayweather: 'Fight of the century' was worth the wait

Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather paid tribute to his father and his opponent Manny Pacquiao after his dominant victory in Las Vegas.

The 38-year-old put on a tactical masterclass taking a unanimous decision 118-110 116-112 116-112 on the judges scorecard to go 48-0.

Mayweather hugs Pacquiao after the win.

“First off I want to thank God for this victory, all the fans that came to Las Vegas and all the fans all over the world,” Mayweather said in the ring after the fight. “He’s a hell of fighter, he’s one of the guys at the pinnacle in sport of boxing

“I know he was going to push me, he had moments in the fight, but I wasn’t getting hit with a lot of shots.

“We did what we had to do tonight. He is a tough competitor. Got to take my hat off to my dad, without him I wouldn’t be here.

“When the history books are written – it was worth the wait.

“I got one more fight. My last fight is in September, it is time to hand it up and I am truly thankful and blessed.”
