The rush for tickets was such that Cork City were sold out of their away allocation by Monday. None went on general sale, with all available tickets snapped up by club trustees and season ticket-holders.

The Lilywhites arranged a temporary stand for the the match, to try and cope with demand. This has increased the capacity of Oriel Park from the usual 3,700 to 4,450.

Dundalk put the 750 extra tickets on sale this morning, with unconfirmed reports that maybe Cork City fans have been using subterfuge to secure a place at the game.

These tickets were completely sold out by 10.30am and the club have confirmed on their website that there will be no more tickets available.

The club said: “It is clear to us that we could have sold this match out three times over given the level of demand. We regret that there will be some supporters that have been unable to purchase tickets.

"This is despite considerably increasing our capacity with the installation of a very expensive temporary stand. We are very sorry to those who are disappointed.

"Unfortunately, the club has strict limits to our capacity and we are unable to exceed these numbers.”
