Is this the man to lead Mayo to All-Ireland glory?

By Stephen Barry

Stephen Rochford has been charged with leading Mayo to All-Ireland glory, having been ratified as the Westeners’ new manager this evening.

The All-Ireland Club winning manager of Corofin takes over from Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes, who resigned after losing a vote of no confidence held by the Mayo squad.

However Rochford, who has been given a three-year term with annual reviews, will be backed by an experienced backroom team.

Among them are All-Ireland winner with Armagh, Tony McEntee, who has also played with and managed Crossmaglen Rangers on the way to multiple All-Ireland Club victories.

Donie Buckley (selector/ coach) and Barry Solan (strength and conditioning) stay in their respective roles from last season, while the ex-Limerick manager Maurice Horan takes charge of statistical analysis.

Former Mayo Minor footballer Sean Carey completes the team of selectors.
