Irish legend Packie Bonner was on the Ray D'Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 this afternoon, and his World Cup jersey from 1994 was a hot topic of debate.
A photograph of rapper M.I.A was posted on social media to promote her Meltdown Festival in London and her outfit looked oddly familiar.
Could that be Bonner's jersey from the USA all those years ago?
When asked by Ray D'Arcy about the jersey, Bonner said:
"I've a couple in the house. But I've also given lots away to charity, it might be doing the rounds... so who knows it might be my jersey!"
Bonner said he hopes that if it was bought from a charity that it made plenty of money.
The resemblance is uncanny.
D'Arcy's team reached out to Adidas to find out if it was a re-release or if it could be an original.
Ben Goldhagen, Sports Performance Director at Adidas, told them:
"I can confirm that this is a vintage shirt and is not a re-release, so it is a ‘94/’95 original sourced by the artist’s stylist on that particular shoot...
"The only route now I would imagine for some iconic shirts, especially goalkeeper shirts would be the likes of Ebay.
"Given the rising popularity of retro and vintage football shirts, we do occasionally look to re-release the more iconic designs, as you would have seen last week with the new Man United away shirt which is inspired by the Class of 92 season away shirt.
"We also release style collections that are inspired by old shirt designs and features. So never say never for this ‘94 shirt!"
So you never know - M.I.A might just bring the Packie Bonner classic back into fashion and back to the sports shops.
Bonner was on the show to promote a Marie Keating Foundation campaign aimed at Bladder Cancer awareness - Don't Ignore The Red.
The legendary goalkeeper also discussed that World Cup in the US, as well as his work with UEFA and the BBC.
