Irishman James McGee through to second qualifying round at Australian Open

Dubliner James McGee racked up a comfortable victory in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open today and is now only two games away from a place at the tournament.

McGee despatched French opponent Calvin Hemery in straight sets and didn’t face a single break point during the match.

McGee, who made it to the first round of the US Open in 2014, also got as far as the second qualifying round for the Australian tournament last year and has previously made it to the third qualifying round of the French Open.

Next up for the 28-year-old, currently ranked 199th in the world, is Moldovan Radu Albot.
