Irish Triathletes aiming high in London

Aileen Reid and Bryan Keane are looking to continue their rich vein of form at this weekend’s London World Triathlon Series.

Ireland’s top ranked male and female triathletes will once again take on the worlds best in round six of the World Series which ultimately decides triathlon's World Champion.

Aileen Reid finished sixth on her last outing.

Reid has seen her star rise as the season has progressed, climbing to seventh in the world rankings at present. With world number five Emma Moffatt missing, Reid will wear number six on the Hyde Park start pontoon.

The 2012 Olympian has experienced mixed fortunes on this course, crashing on a greasy corner at the London Games but bouncing back to claim silver a year later in the World Series Grand Final.

Cork man Bryan Keane is another to have jumped up the rankings in recent times. The 34-year-old was just nine seconds off the podium at the Chengdu World Cup just three weeks ago and posted a career best result at World Series level when he finished 13th in Yokohama last time out.

The London course is likely to feature a chilly wetsuit mandatory swim of 750 metres in the Serpentine Lake, followed by a two-lap 20 kilometre bike and one-lap five kilometre run around Hyde Park.

Paratriathlete, Aidan McGlynn is set to compete in the PT4 category on Saturday morning. McGlynn finished sixth in his first elite level triathlon and will be looking for another top result as he bids to qualify for a second Paralympic Games.

The elite men’s race starts on Sunday, May 31 at 3pm followed by the women’s race at 4:45pm.
