Here’s what lucky ticket-holders can expect at the sold-out Cliff Diving World Series at Inis Mór

The return of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series to Inis Mór will attract a sold-out crowd to the Aran Islands next month, writes Stephen Barry.

Over 1,000 ticket holders will see the world’s top divers leap from a height of 27 metres, performing a series of acrobatics as they accelerate to around 85kph, before plunging into the spectacular Poll Na Péist (Serpent’s Lair) within three seconds.

That almost perfectly rectangular pool has been naturally carved into the limestone by the Atlantic Ocean, and will test the nerve of the elite divers who are returning for the first time in three years on Saturday, June 24.

The women’s competition will be making its Irish debut for the first stop of the six-event 2017 series.
