World Champion Rob Heffernan is out of the 50km race walk at the European Championships in Zurich.

World Champion Rob Heffernan is out of the 50km race walk at the European Championships in Zurich.

The Corkman had to stop for a water break and stretch around 36 kilometres in and withdrew just a few kilometres later.

Brendan Boyce is also competing and is 19th.

Ciaran O'Lionaird makes it through to the next stage of the 1,500m after finishing 7th in his heat as the fastest loser, John Travers however tailed off going into the final lap and will not progress.

Paul Robinson came fourth in the men's 1,500m semis and qualifies for the final.

Mark English goes in the 800 metres final at 5.55pm.
