Hannon on Goodwood glory trail26/07/2012 - 17:10:55
Superlative Stakes winner Olympic Glory is the star name among 14 entries for the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday.
A winner at Goodwood on debut before finding only the hugely exciting Dawn Approach too strong in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, Richard Hannon’s juvenile got off the mark in Pattern company with a narrow at Newmarket.
The youngster held on by a head from the David Simcock-trained Birdman and the two could renew rivalries next week.
Simcock said: “He has been in good form since his run at Newmarket. He is very straightforward and considering the race was a bit of slog, I couldn’t be happier with him.”
Hannon has a strong hand in the Group Two contest as he could also saddle Alhebayeb, who landed Newmarket’s July Stakes after a narrow defeat in the Windsor Castle Stakes.
In what looks certain to be a top-class affair, Godolphin have entered Chesham Stakes winner Tha’ir and John Gosden could saddle his impressive Newmarket maiden winner Ghurair.
Tha’ir’s trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: “Tha’ir worked nicely on Wednesday morning and he looks to be in good form at the moment.”
