It's looking much better this morning though.

Gruesome pic shows the cost of Westmeath U21 victory against Kilkenny

This picture is not for the squeamish.

Celebrations are no doubt continuing in Westmeath, after their young hurlers recorded an historic victory over Kilkenny in the Bord Gais Energy Leinster U21 hurling championship.

Darragh Clinton scored eight points and Warren Casserly a goal to help Westmeath book a semi-final meeting with Dublin or Wexford.

Casserly proved his commitment to the cause with more than just the goal - he also put his body on the line.

The midfielder was stretchered off in the second half after sustaining this nasty-looking gash to his forehead.

That is gonna leave a mark.

The head injury didn’t seem to dent his pleasure in the slightest - he was pictured afterwards sporting a massive bandage and celebrating joyfully with his teammates.

The hardy hurler posted an update on Twitter this morning - showing the wound cleaned up and stitched.

Casserly believes the “small cut” was a price worth paying: “What's a few stitches and scars when we pull out a victory like that”.
