Chantal Gibney has smashed Michelle de Bruin’s 200m freestyle Irish record at the Irish Open Championships in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

Chantal Gibney has smashed Michelle de Bruin’s 200m freestyle Irish record at the Irish Open Championships in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

Gibney won gold last night with a time of 1.59.5 mins, shaving 0.19 seconds off de Bruin’s 1998 record.

Steven Manley also notched up a second Irish record after recording a time of 1.47 seconds in the heats before taking gold in the final.

Manley set a 100m individual medley record of 57.08 seconds on Wednesday night.
