Carlow fans should not expect to see their O’Hanrahans heroes in the starting line-up when they face neighbours Wicklow in next Sunday’s Bank of Ireland Leinster senior football championship opening round tie at Newbridge.
The O’Hanrahans contingent, apart from Mark Carpenter and Alan Bowe, played no part in the sides Allianz National League campaign, despite their heroics in the AIB Leinster club senior football championship when winning the provincial title for the first time.
As O’Hanrahans were celebrating a historic victory, eventually losing the All-Ireland semi-final to Munster champions, Nemo Rangers, the players had not responded to a letter from the County Board resulting in new Team Manager, Pat Roe, leaving many quality players out in the cold.
However Roe has another problem to contend with before finalising his line-up.
Full-back Brian Farrell is still struggling with a hamstring injury which forced him to miss recent games, and will undergo a late fitness test.
Even should Farrell be forced out there will be no return for O’Hanrahans full-back, Andrew Corden, who was the regular No. 3 until falling foul of Roe’s regimental ruling, despite having figured with Leinster earlier this year.
There was no better news for Breffni Hannon, Ken Walker, Philip Nolan and Pa Kavanagh, as the O’Hanrahans appeal to have their players considered fell on deaf ears, with Roe remaining with the panel which served him through a disappointing league campaign.
