European Tour investigating reports of rocket attack in Turkish resort
European Tour officials are urgently investigating reports that the southern Turkish holiday resort region of Antalya was hit in a rocket attack today.
Turkish media reported that two rockets were fired from a mountainous area close to the highway linking the city of Antalya to the resort town of Kemer.
No one was killed or injured in the attack, which apparently targeted a fuel tanker but instead hit a fishing company's storage house and open ground nearby.
The Turkish Airlines Open, the first of the European Tour's lucrative Final Series events, is scheduled to be held at the Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort in Antalya from November 3-6.
Former world number one Tiger Woods was due to play in the event before shelving his planned comeback from injury, leaving four-time major winner Rory McIlroy as the star attraction in the €6.4million tournament.
A spokesperson for the European Tour said: "As a matter of priority, we are currently investigating today's incident in the Antalya region with our security consultants and local authorities. We will update further as soon as possible."
Turkey has been rocked by a wave of bomb attacks since last summer that have killed hundreds of people and been blamed on either the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) or the Islamic State group.
