Cuthbert: Kildare loss not down to physical shape

By Robert McNamara

Former Cork senior football manager Brian Cuthbert has described his final few weeks in the post as a “rollercoaster”.

Speaking to Des Cahill on RTÉ radio's Saturday Sport programme, the Bishopstown man admitted that Cork were dominated by Kildare in their Senior Football Qualifier at Semple Stadium last weekend, but denied that it was due to a lack of fitness.

Cork had succumbed to Kerry in a replay of the Munster final in Killarney two weeks ago, before they were knocked out of the Championship by the Lilywhites in Thurles last Saturday.

“Kildare blew us off the park in Thurles last Saturday night,” said Cuthbert.

“The team was ready and in good physical shape but after the warm-up I felt we just weren’t happy where we were at.”

Cuthbert was appointed as manager in October 2013 and resigned the role on Tuesday.
