Benitez hopeful over Ramos

Rafael Benitez is hopeful that captain Sergio Ramos will stay at Real Madrid.

The future of Ramos has been one of the talking points of the summer, with Manchester United continually linked with a move for the Spain international.

However, Real manager Benitez is confident the 29-year-old central defender will remain with Los Blancos following talks with club president Florentino Perez in China.

“Like I said previously, I spoke to the president on Sunday at lunch and he told me that he was going to talk to Ramos,” Benitez told the Spanish press.

“I’ve asked both since then and they’re optimistic”.

Real claimed a 3-0 win over Inter Milan in their third pre-season game in Guangzhou on Monday and Benitez was pleased with the overall performance.

He said: “Both halves were good. We changed players, and those who remained on the pitch were more tired as you would expect.

“We played with good intensity, we worked well in defence, the team was united and we showed the same cutting-edge in attack.”
