Ostlund misses out as Svensson gets the nod
09/05/2006 - 18:32:02Alexander Ostlund was the surprise omission from Sweden’s provisional squad for the 2006 World Cup.
Defender Ostlund missed out as Lars Lagerback named his squad, although he remains on standby.
Instead IFK Gothenburg’s 22-year-old defender Karl Svensson got a surprise call for the tournament after a fine start to the Allsvenskan season.
Lagerback also had a surprise in his choice of goalkeepers with 29-year-old Eddie Gustafsson excluded after losing his place with Norwegian club Lyn Oslo.
That means a call for former Arsenal ‘keeper Rami Shaaban, who joins fellow custodians Andreas Isaksson and John Alvbage in the squad.
Sweden take on England Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago in their group.
