Only one Irish athlete per race will compete in next month's World Cross-Championships in Japan.

Irish cross-country champion Vinny Mulvey of Raheny Shamrock competes in the men's long-course, but there is no Irish representation in the short-course.

Maria McCambridge and Rosemary Ryan will run in the women's races, with juniors Stephen Scullion and Sara Louise Treacy also taking part.

Athletics Ireland President Michael Heery has said that the organisation does not have the budget to send a full team.
