O'Neill chasing more signings
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill is confident that more signings will follow new Bhoy Henri Camara before the European deadline.
The Northern Irishman completed his first signing of the summer with the season-long loan deal for the Wolves hitman before his side’s 1-0 defeat to Roma at the Skydome.
But he revealed that he will not be the last although he is unsure whether there will be more new faces in time for the big kick-off with Motherwell next week.
O’Neill said: “We want to strengthen the squad and we have two deadlines - when the season starts next week and the end of August deadline for the early European matches.”
Temperamental Camara scored only six times for relegated Wolves last season but the former Leicester City boss is confident that he will deliver at Parkhead.
“Well, I am pleased,” said O’Neill. “We have obviously lost some players with Henrik Larsson being a major loss.
“I know that is going to be difficult to fill but we have to at some stage or another. I am happy to get Camara. I know despite Wolves’ relegation he did very well and he is very quick.
“He will be a good acquisition for us over the coming months. He has not done a great deal of training and I will look at him when we get home over the weekend.”
His side completed their gruelling four-match tour of North America with defeat to the Italian giants.
Disgraced Francesco Totti, thrown out of Euro 2004 for spitting, took advantage of some more slack Celtic defending to give himself and his club some positive press after his Euro 2004 shame and their ugly clash with Chelsea.
Celtic’s defence was nowhere near as bad as it was against Chelsea and Liverpool but having been tightened up for the win with Manchester United, there were moments in the picturesque Canadian city that would have given O’Neill some cause for concern.
But rather than criticise his back line he chose to look at the positives.
O’Neill added: “I thought we had the majority of the play and I was pleased with some of the young players’ performances. We missed a couple of great chances to score but nonetheless I am very pleased.”
