16/04/2012 - 00:57:50Wicklow will meet Fermanagh in the Allianz Football League Division 4 final after ending the group phase with a win over Clare today.
A trio of late points secured a 1-15 to 1-12 victory for the Garden County side in Aughrim and promotion to Division 3 for next year.
The sides were tied at 1-12 apiece with five minutes remaining, with a draw being enough to see Clare through to the final.
However, Harry Murphy's Wicklow charges dug deep with a brace of Tony Hannon points coupled with a Leighton Glynn score ensuring a final berth for them.
Wicklow led by 1-8 to 0-6 at half-time, with Darren Hayden netting their goal after just 51 seconds.
The hosts surged into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead after 15 minutes and although Clare cut the deficit to a point, Wicklow finished the half with four unanswered scores.
The Banner men bounced back thanks to a Rory Donnelly goal, but the dismissal of full-back Shane McNeilus proved costly.
Table toppers Fermanagh ended their Division 4 campaign unbeaten after a 2-15 to 0-7 defeat of Leitrim at Brewster Park in Enniskillen.
Peter Canavan's Ernesiders had already qualified for the decider, and they struggled early on with their first score coming after a full 15 minutes.
But aided by Seamus Quigley's 34th-minute goal, they broke into a 1-8 to 0-3 half-time lead - 1-5 of that tally coming from Quigley.
Quigley, who top scored with 2-6, punched the ball into the net for his side's second goal on the restart.
Ryan Jones, Daryl Keenan and Shane McCabe also registered scores for the hosts as they claimed a 14-point victory and now look forward to a final against Wicklow on Sunday, April 29.
Elsewhere, there was also a home victory for Limerick as they overcame Carlow by 0-19 to 1-9 at the Gaelic Grounds.
Limerick led by 0-8 to 0-4 approaching the interval, and although Carlow claimed a much-needed goal, the Shannonsiders were far more impressive on the restart.
In the opening game of the day in this division, Waterford and London finished level at 0-9 apiece in Dungarvan.
Little separated the teams in this entertaining encounter, with the sides level at 0-5 apiece at the interval.
Waterford led by 0-8 to 0-7 as the game entered the final quarter, but London continue to keep apace with the Munster side.
Tied at 0-9 apiece with three minutes remaining, both sides had opportunities to win this game late on, but neither managed to register a match-winning score.
