Musselburgh's Friday meet in doubt

13/01/2010 - 17:04:26
Friday's meeting at Musselburgh remains in doubt with an inspection called for 8am tomorrow.

However, with milder weather forecast the prospects are better for Saturday's provisional fixture.

"There has only been marginal improvement today. The bad places haven't really moved at all," said clerk of the course Anthea Morshead.

"It's only been up to 2C today. It's been very overcast all day and we had drizzle this morning.

"Forecasters are saying it will be zero tonight then 1C or 2C tomorrow, and zero or -1C Thursday night, so that is pretty pessimistic for Friday.

"Things are due to pick up on Friday - 5C with a strong southerly wind and light rain.

"Temperatures will barely dip overnight into Saturday, then 5C on Saturday with heavy rain on and off in the morning and strong winds.

"There is hope as long as that milder air comes early enough on Friday morning. The temperatures we've had yesterday, today and are forecast tonight and tomorrow mean Friday's meeting is unlikely."
