Munster have signed South African player Pat Howard on a three-month contract, subject to a medical, to provide cover in the centre.
The 22-year-old currently plays for Western Province and played for them yesterday as they took on Saracens in a challenge game in London, losing 46-22.
Howard also played for the South Africa U20s side that won the Junior World Championships in 2012.
Head coach Anthony Foley said the signing was necessitated by injuries in the existing squad.
"With players ruled out due to injury and a few other niggles we want to make sure we have a full spread available to us before we enter the next crucial period”, said Foley.
“Howard can provide that additional support."
Munster are struggling for cover after knee injuries to both Keith Earls and Cian Bohane, and issues surrounding the signing of Tyler Bleyendaal.
