Montoya confident of first-place challenge
Williams’ Juan Pablo Montoya is confident he will be challenging for first place in the championship’s next round in Hungary.
The Colombian driver believes the on-going development work being carried out on the BMW-powered car will put the team in a better position to challenge for the top spot with the FW26 expected to have more downforce at the Hungaroring.
The 28-year-old started second on the grid in the last round at Hockenheim and admits he was unhappy not to have a place on the podium after finishing fifth.
“If you start a race from the front row of the grid you expect to finish on the podium,” Montoya said.
“Even so, it was evident that we have been making progress. We are becoming more competitive, but we still have a problem with tyre wear.
“The improvements that we’ll have in place for Hungary will help us a lot. With more downforce we’ll be in a better position to fight for the lead.”
