Meath boss Barry defers selection

27/05/2006 - 16:07:51
Meath manager Eamonn Barry has deferred selection of his team for tomorrow's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Wexford (Croke Park, throw-in 2.10pm).

Barry is awaiting fitness assessments on a number of key men and will not finalise his side until shortly before throw-in.

Experienced duo Anthony Moyles (arm) and Ollie Murphy (hamstring) are rated doubtful for the headquarters clash, which will be Paul Bealin's first championship match in charge of Wexford.

The 29-year-old Moyles broke his arm when playing for Blackhall Gaels last month, but has since returned to training.

Moyles saw Dr Pat O'Neill for X-rays during the week, but it is unclear whether the former Meath minor hurling captain will start for the Royals.

Murphy, who also sat out Meath's first round win over Louth a fortnight ago, is gradually returning to fitness after a hamstring injury. The 30-year-old came off the bench in last Saturday's 0-15 to 2-9 challenge match draw with Cavan, scoring a point.

One player who seems certain to play a pivotal role for the Royals is Murphy's 1999 All-Ireland winning team mate Graham Geraghty.

Wexford boss Bealin feels Geraghty, who is expected to start at centre forward, is "the player that brings the whole Meath team together".

Geraghty's switch back out to forty helped Meath power clear in the second half of their 1-15 to 0-10 victory over Louth.
