Masters quits Cork panel

James Masters
The Cork Senior Football squad have been hit with the news that James Masters has quit the panel.
The 27-year old, who captained Cork to their last All-Ireland Minor success back in 2000; informed Rebels manager Conor Counihan of his decision to leave the squad this week.
It is believed that the Nemo Rangers clubman was dismayed with the lack of game time afforded to him this season, having failed to secure a starting berth.
Masters failed to feature in his side's opening round league win against Monaghan at Scotstown, while he was introduced as an injury-time substitute against Kerry and Galway.
Counihan was tight-lipped about Masters' reasons for the move, but confirmed that he had told him he was leaving the panel.
"James is no longer a part of the panel. He informed me that he wanted to step out of the squad and I respect his decision."
It is a major blow for Cork who along with Dublin are the only unbeaten sides in Division 1 of the Allianz NFL to date.
