Henry Candy has raised the possibility that impressive Betfred Sprint Cup winner Markab could have run his last race of the season.
In the immediate aftermath of the Haydock Group One Candy was talking about a trip to Longchamp for the Prix de l’Abbaye but having slept on it he may now rough the seven-year-old off for the campaign.
“He’s absolutely fine this morning,” said Candy.
“If someone had told me he would finish second in a King’s Stand and win the Sprint Cup at the start of the season I would have thought they were dreaming, it’s dramatic how he has come on.
“His only bad run was at Newbury in the Hackwood but that was my fault. He had a hard race at Ascot and was probably still feeling it a bit.
“He was drawn on the wrong side too yesterday but he settled very well in the first 100 yards and Pat (Cosgrave) gets a great tune out of him.
“France is by no means definite. Last year we ran him in the Diadem in late September and he’d gone over the top.
“He’s been on the go a long time so there’s an outside chance we might go to France but I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t it for the season.”
