Mancini hails 'crazy, incredible' finish
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admitted it has been a “crazy season” after his side pipped Manchester United to the Barclays Premier League title with a last-gasp 3-2 victory over QPR.
The Blues looked set to endure an awful afternoon when Djibril Cisse and Jamie Mackie overturned Pablo Zabaleta’s first-half strike in between Joey Barton getting sent off.
But Edin Dzeko rose to give the Blues fresh hope before Sergio Aguero drove home the goal that turned City into champions for the first time since 1968.
Mancini told Sky Sports 1: "It was incredible – they deserved this. To win it like this is incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a finale like this.
“We didn’t deserve to lose, we had a lot of chances and we deserved to win the game and championship.
“It’s fantastic for the club and the supporters after 44 years. It’s been a crazy season and a crazy last minute.”
Jubilant Manchester City fans were in seventh heaven tonight.
Dan Walters, 25, from Sale, said: "I have lost my voice. This is incredible. I was at Wembley when we played Gillingham and we did it then in similar circumstances. I was wearing this same shirt. I think the shirt is cursed! We can only do it the hard way. But we have done it. It is brilliant, incredible.''
Neil Roughedge, 55, from Manchester, added: “I am absolutely over the moon...I can’t believe it. I thought were out of it, dead and buried, but what a sensational finish, unbelievable.
"I have followed City all my life. This scarf is from the last time we won the league - it's 44 years old... That’s how much it means to us.”
Paul Fletcher, 40, from Manchester, said: “It’s unbelievable. It was Gillingham all over again for me. United had won, but what a finish! I don’t know what they’re thinking – it was like Fergie time. It’s been 44 years of hurt and I’ve been coming for 34 of them. I’m going to enjoy tonight, and tomorrow, and the summer.”
Tracy Book, 46, from Northwich, said: “I’m Tony Book’s daughter. He was the last captain to win the league. I’m very proud. I’ve been a City fan all my life, born and bred. I can’t believe it. I’m over the moon.”
