Loan duo in contention for Hammers

19/09/2005 - 14:25:11
Jeremie Aliadiere and David Bellion may be handed a chance to shine for West Ham in the Carling Cup second round tie against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough tomorrow night.

Hammers boss Alan Pardew has to decide whether to continue with in-form Marlon Harewood, who scored in Saturday’s win against Fulham to add to his hat-trick against Aston Villa or give him and Bobby Zamora a well-earned rest.

If Pardew opts for the latter course then Aliadiere and Bellion, on loan from Arsenal and Manchester United respectively, could form a new-look strike pairing against the Championship outfit. Pardew has already indicated 39-year-old former England striker Teddy Sheringham will be rested for the tie. Christian Dailly, an unused substitute at Craven Cottage at the weekend, could be restored to the starting line-up.

Provisional squad: Carroll, Hislop, Etherington, Mullins, Gabbidon, Repka, Reo-Coker, Ward, Collins, Dailly, Bellion, Newton, Ferdinand, Harewood, Zamora, Konchesky, Sheringham, Noble, Benayoun, Williams, Aliadiere, Clarke.
