Lima punished for penalty
24/06/2005 - 21:09:02Portugal’s Jose-Filipe Lima missed the halfway cut in the French Open today because of a two-stroke penalty for missing his second round tee-off time.
Due to resume at 4.05pm, the 23-year-old thought it was 4.10pm and arrived after playing partners Gordon Brand Jnr and David Carter had hit off.
If he had been five minutes late he would have been disqualified. He avoided that by 65 seconds, but a closing double bogey seven dropped him to four over and the cut fell at two over.
England’s Sam Little, 149th on the Order of Merit, crashed out as well – after being in 11th place with three holes to play.
He bogeyed the seventh and eighth, then collapsed to a quintuple bogey 10 on the ninth to miss by one.
