Ligament damage ends O’Malley’s season14/05/2012 - 13:41:48
Eoin O’Malley will miss both of Leinster’s upcoming finals after a scan confirmed the centre suffered ligament damage in his knee in Leinster’s PRO12 semi-final against the Glasgow Warriors on Saturday.
After several players left the Glasgow game with bumps and bruises, the Leinster management team will be relieved that no others have been ruled out of the two crucial finals.
Gordon D’Arcy sustained a cut to side of his left eye midway through the first half of the PRO12 Play Off, which caused bruising and required stitches.
At this point the management are hopeful that he will be fit for selection.
Cian Healy was withdrawn as a precaution, with the prop forward suffering from cramp as well as a niggling ankle problem but the Ireland international is expected to fully recover.
The medical team are confident that full-back Rob Kearney (back) will be available for selection while the outlook on Brian O’Driscoll (knee) is also looking positive.
A final decision regarding their selection will be made by the coaching team on Thursday evening ahead of Friday’s midday team announcement.
The Leinster squad will resume their on-field preparations on Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday's Heineken Cup final against Ulster in Twickenham (5pm).
