Casino developers Stanley Leisure have purchased land adjacent to Leeds’ Elland Road ground in a deal worth £5m (€7.2m) to the beleaguered Yorkshire club.

Stanley Casinos Limited plan to build a casino complex on the newly-acquired site subject to the reform of the United Kingdom’s gambling laws.

The complex is projected to comprise a casino plus a hotel, restaurants, bars, leisure facilities and designer shops.

Stanley Leisure chief executive Bob Wiper said: “We are delighted to announce the development of this exceptional site in Leeds which we believe is the best location for a casino in the north of England.”
