Kempton ditches jumps meeting for bumper card

Tomorrow's jumps meeting at Kempton has been abandoned with the venue now staging a bumper card on the all-weather track instead.
Clerk of the course Barney Clifford has planned to inspect at 8am but after temperatures dropped below freezing again overnight, he was able to make an earlier call.
He said: “We went down to minus 1.5C overnight and while it was not as cold as forecast, we are frozen in places.
“The forecast offers little hope of jump racing going ahead so we have activated the ’bumpers for jumpers’ card.
“There is the threat of snow tonight, we’re on the edge of that so were unsure about the accumulations and the temperature is due to drop to minus 3C.
“We could possibly get one or two centimetres but with the air temps below zero, it should be easy enough to move.”
