Keane helps Galaxy to away win; Lampard suffers defeat on MLS debut

The LA Galaxy, in third in the MLS table, saw off bottom side Colorado Rapids with a 3-1 comeback win after Marcelo Sarvas had given the hosts the lead.

Sebastian Lletget, Alan Gordon and Robbie Keane hit back for the visitors.

Chris Rolfe netted a brace as DC United maintained their nine-point lead at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference following a 6-4 comeback victory at home to Real Salt Lake.

Goals from Joao Plata and Kyle Beckerman put Real ahead but Rolfe’s double and a third from Taylor Kemp turned the game in DC’s favour.

Aaron Maund equalised for the visitors before Fabian Espindola handed DC the lead for the second time and Perry Kitchen cancelled out Abdoulie Mansally’s effort before Nick DeLeon added the gloss late on.

In second, the New York Red Bulls claimed a 3-1 victory at the second-bottom Philadelphia Union thanks to goals from Sacha Kljestan, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Anatole Bertrand Abang with Sebastien Le Toux on target for the hosts.

Frank Lampard was powerless to stop New York City FC slipping to a 3-2 home defeat to Montreal Impact on his Major League Soccer debut.

Former England and Chelsea midfielder Lampard made his long-overdue New York debut as a second-half substitute – more than a year after initially signing for the club.

Lampard spent last season on loan at Manchester City and was then forced to wait even longer for his New York debut after suffering a calf strain last month.

The 37-year-old joined the fray at Yankee Stadium with New York trailing 2-1, ex-Spain hitman David Villa having just fired his 13th goal of the season from the penalty spot to halve Montreal’s lead.

Dominic Oduro and Ignacio Piatti struck in the first half to hand the visitors a commanding lead at the break, with the likes of former Italy star Andrea Pirlo largely ineffective for New York.

Villa had the ball in the back of the net during a lacklustre first half, only for his effort to be chalked off for offside.

His 68th-minute penalty handed New York hope, only for Piatti to convert a spot -kick of his own with six minutes left on the clock.

Thomas McNamara still found time to hit back for New York, with Lampard lurking in the hope of a tap-in for a debut goal.

The opportunity did not present itself as New York cut the deficit back to one goal – and the veteran was unable to conjure another chance as his new side slumped to defeat.

Lampard joined the action from the bench at the same time as another ex-West Ham star, Nigel Reo-Coker, who was signed by Montreal last year.

And in the event it was the former Aston Villa man who would be going home happy on Saturday night.

Charlie Davies scored a brace as the New England Revolution closed the gap on the third-placed Columbus Crew with a 3-1 victory over 10-man Toronto FC.

Lee Nguyen claimed New England’s second while Jonathan Osorio replied for Toronto, who lost Jozy Altidore to a red card six minutes before the break.

Columbus suffered a 5-2 defeat at Orlando City after Federico Higuain got the ball rolling for the visitors. Cyle Larin recorded a brace, while Darwin Ceren, Aurelien Collin and Cristian Higuita netted for the hosts, who scored an own goal through Collin at the death.

The Vancouver Whitecaps moved top of the Western Conference as they eased to a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field as Pa Modou Kah claimed a double and Pedro Morales sealed their win with 15 minutes remaining.

The Houston Dynamo struck back to clinch a point from a 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City, who went ahead through Dominic Dwyer before Ricardo Clark grabbed a share of the spoils.
