Katie Taylor reaches semi-finals as opponent fails to turn up

Irish boxer and Olympic champion Katie Taylor received a walkover in her AIBA World Women's Elite Championship game in Korea this morning, after her opponent failed to weigh in.

Taylor was due to face Russian Sofya Ochigava at 5am Irish time this morning in a quarter-final match-up, but it is believed Ochigava picked up an injury during yesterday's bout.

Team manager Anna Moore confirmed the news earlier today.

Ochigava and Taylor met during both the Olympic and World championship finals in 2012, with Taylor taking victory on both occasions.

Taylor is now guaranteed a bronze ahead of the semi-finals which take place on Sunday. She will face China's Jinhua Yin, who defeated Bulgaria's Denista Eliseeva earlier.
