Injury worries for under-pressure Galway United

Galway United manager Sean Connor

Galway United and Dundalk meet in tonight’s Airtricity League Premier Division clash at Terryland Park (kick-off 7pm).

United must plan without Karl Sheppard as the striker is serving a suspension, while Rhys Meynell picked up a cartilage injury last Sunday and is a doubt.

Left back Steven Walsh may make his league full debut if Meynell misses out, while Jason Molloy may be added to the squad if he passes a fitness test.

Manager Sean Connor said: “We have had a tough couple of weeks. It has been frustrating because I have been actively trying to cut my wage bill. It has been hard because we have a very small squad.

"There probably will be more departures during the week unless there is a dramatic change in the circumstances. What we have had with the last two gates have been excellent, and we hope for another one against Dundalk.

“Realistically, though, we are running out of time to replace people, if I am allowed the opportunity to replace people. Right now it is a matter of trying to reduce the wage bill and keep the club afloat.

“I want to keep climbing the table and I still believe we can catch teams above us. I believe we can catch UCD and Dundalk.”

For Dundalk, Liam Burns remains out with a long-term abdominal injury, and is joined on the injury list by Nathan Murphy who has ankle ligament damage.

Shaun Kelly is doubtful as he is struggling with a knee injury, while Michael McGowan is suspended.
