Hatton happy to leave home turf
Ricky Hatton believes his decision to pursue welterweight glory across the Atlantic underlines his intention to dominate the division on a global scale.
Hatton fired back at his remaining critics by uprooting from his Manchester home to challenge WBA champion Luis Collazo on Saturday night in Boston.
He believes it is only the start of his bid to take the lucrative American market by storm and set up future fights with the likes of reigning IBF champion Floyd Mayweather.
Hatton, who has been told Collazo’s WBA title will be on the line in Boston, said: “I could have stayed in Manchester and said: 'It’s a fortress and I’m the number one so you have got to come here', but only one person decided to come to America and that was me.
“For so long I have had to put up with so much stuff saying I was avoiding people and I think I’ve put that to bed.
“I am moving up to fight a southpaw and that shows what I am all about.”
