Rickie Fowler has made one golf fan’s day, by winning him a mortgage-free year.
Fowler is playing at the Quicken Loans National tournament in Virginia and got the weekend off to a good start yesterday, carding a round of 67 - including a hole-in-one.
Fowler found the pin on the par-three 200-yard ninth with his tee shot, ending his round with a flourish.
“Made a great swing,” said Fowler on the PGA Tour website. “Spun to the right; I was trying to cut it. Rolled in with perfect speed.”
WALK OFF.

Rickie Fowler just aced No. 9 to shoot an opening-round 67. #QuickHits http://t.co/fOEaTsnkXW
He wasn’t the only one celebrating. Quicken Loans National, the tournament sponsors, are running a promotion with a difference for holes-in-one.
Instead of a flash car or other prize for the golfer involved - every time someone aces on the course they are giving one golf fan a mortgage-free year.
Fowler tweeted to say he was delighted to have one the prize for golf fan Tom R.
Happy to have won Tom R. a mortgage-free year with my @QuickenLoans hole in one at the @QLNational! Are you next? https://t.co/e2Vf5Hiu79

The young American golfer was keen to share the celebrations, sending cases of beer to the media tent so journalists covering the event could also raise a toast.
That @RickieFowler knows his audience. Sent this over after his hole-in-one. Thanks! #QLNational pic.twitter.com/8jeqyhFSbD

Great move by @RickieFowler. He aced par 3 9th and bought drinks for media members. The writing may be impaired. pic.twitter.com/wIzxGdTGRr

That should ensure he has plenty of positive coverage for the weekend.
