The hazards of watching your favourite sport

A golf fan got closer than he wanted to the action in the States yesterday.

Edwin Curtis was hit on the head by a golf ball near the 18th green during the second round of the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Curtis, of Palm Beach Gardens, was struck by a shot from George McNeill after the ball had travelled more than 250 yards.

The ball bounced back toward the green, allowing McNeil to save par at the par-five hole.

Curtis was transported to a local hospital for observation by local the fire rescue service.

McNeill reportedly shared a joke with Curtis, who did not lose consciousness, and his wife after the incident, handing over a signed glove.
