Jordan Speith was crowned US Open Champion in a dramatic finish but the fallout from the conditions of the course continued after the event.
Ian Poulter has described the greens as ‘disgraceful’ and posted a picture on Instagram to back up his claims about the Chambers Bay course.
The British golfer who shot a seven-over 77 in the final round launched a stinging attack on Mike Davis the head of the USA Golf.
“This is not sour grapes or moaning or any of that crap. It’s simply the truth. Unfortunately Mike David hasn’t spoken the truth about the conditions of the greens.”
“It’s simply not good enough and deeply disappointing for a tournament of this magnitude. I don’t like it when people lie on camera to try and save face.”
Henrik Stenson had memorably compared the greens to putting on broccoli, but Rory McIlroy joked:
"I don't think they're as green as broccoli. I think they're more like cauliflower.”
The criticism is likely to continue for some time with legends of the game including Gary Player labelling it a ‘tragedy’.
Despite the controversy Jordan Speith will be chasing his third consecutive major of the year at the British Open which takes place from the 16-19 of July at St Andrews.
