The Olympic Council of Ireland announced the Team Ireland leaders for the Rio Olympic Games 2016 this morning and Paul McGinley is the Team Leader for the golfers.
The Dubliner was widely praised for his work masterminding Europe’s victory in the Ryder Cup in September, with his meticulous preparation and team selection seen as key to their success.
McGinley also has a close relationship with Rory McIlroy, who confirmed earlier this year that he would represent Ireland in the Olympics.
The World number one was full of praise for McGinley after the Ryder Cup.
“I can’t say enough about the captain,” McIlroy said. “Paul McGinley has been absolutely immense this week. He has left no stone unturned.”
