Christy O’Connor Jnr will be laid to rest in his native Galway on Tuesday afternoon.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the funeral mass of the golfer at Galway Cathedral.

The 67-year-old, who died suddenly on holiday in Spain on Tuesday, will repose at St Anthony’s Room within the Church of St John the Apostle in Knocknacarra from 2pm on Monday afternoon with removal to Galway Cathedral at 6pm.

His funeral mass will take place at 12pm on Tuesday and he will be buried afterwards at Rahoon Cemetery on the west of the city.

The Ryder Cup hero, who died in Tenerife, is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Ann and son Nogel, grandchildren Ava, Zara and Leda and extended family including his mentor and uncle Christy O’Connor Snr.
