Glen Crowe set to join Shels for next season

19/11/2004 - 18:56:38
Bohemians are claiming that leading scorer Glen Crowe is one of a trio of players joining Dublin rivals Shelbourne.

The Republic of Ireland international striker has hit 19 goals for Bohs this season, second only to Shels’ Jason Byrne with 25 going into this weekend’s final matches of the season.

Crowe is one of 12 Bohemians first-team squad members out of contract at the end of the campaign and the Bohs website, under a headline ‘Heroes to Zeroes’, says the striker and Bobby Ryan “have turned their backs on Bohs to join Shelbourne. This, despite the fact that Bohs had agreed all wage demands for Crowe's new contract and were still in discussion with Ryan.”

The story also states Colin Hawkins will be at Tolka Park next season after agreeing terms with the Tolka Park outfit.

Other players to leave Bohs as new player-manager Gareth Farrelly prepares for his first full season at the helm in 2005 are defenders Simon Webb and Damian Lynch, who are said to be joining Drogheda United, while Stephen Caffrey is on his way to St Patrick’s Athletic for next season.

On taking the job as successor to Stephen Kenny this summer, Farrelly was publicly promised by the Bohemians board that the club would definitely remain full time next season with club secretary Gerry Cuffe insisting: “The club is duty bound to come up with the finance.”

Team captain Kevin Hunt and defender Paul McNally are among those remaining players who will become out of contract at the end of the campaign.
